мотив трилистник, ирландское кружево, ПрисциллаFor almost a year I had a desire to translate "The Book of Irich crochet " into russian, providing it with step-by-step instrustions on each motif. And finally I've started it. Today's element is a flower/leaf with three petals, you can find it on page 5 and 6, figure 14 and 15. Without a central picot row this motif can serve as a shamrock, and with it looks like a tradescantia flower. Just like any element in IC it is crocheted over  padding cord, so you have to prepare yarn for a PC and a working thread.

Some of the later developed patterns were given in a forum topic, where the russian speaking auditory of this site is working in a Crochet Along project. For this lesson I've used Begonia Yarnart 4 ply as a padding cord, and Violet Yarnart of the same shade for  working thread, hook size 1-1.1 mm. It is obvious that with such yarn the resulting motif will be slightly bigger that in original irish lace, but I think that for a beginner it will be easier to learn on thick yarn and then do a finer version. And so we begin, make a beginning loop on a working thread
And make 1 chain over the center of our PC. The padding cord should be about 30 inches long
Make 34 double crochet over the pc, draw it to form a ring and join to the first DC on the cord. In my case I had a ring with internal diameter about 1.3 cm.
The second and third rows are worked identically - work dc over the cord working in the back loops only,
increasing by working 2 dc in every 4th stitch
do not stop increasing at the row switch there will be one increase right on the place. Otherwise you'll lack one stitch when work on petals.
We have a doughnut with 53 stitches over the edge.Set the cord aside, and work on petal - (3 chain, skip 2 1 dc in the next stitch) repeat 5 times

2 c , miss 2, 1 treble crochet in the next stitch. This makes 6 loops in all
Turn work, dc,
(3 chain, skip 2 1 dc in the next 3 chain) 4 times, 2 c, 1 treble crochet in the next chain
Continue to work thus, 4 loops, 3, 2 loops, 1 loop
And now is the most intriguing thing in IC. In russian style we either work dc on the side of a triangle or loops of 3-4 chain to get to the base of a petal, but the priscilla way is much smarter. Draw out the loop on the hook until it is large enough for a spool to pass through, tighten the thread as to secure the last stitch, then lay the thread slackly not tightly down the section just worked, so that the threas is ready for continuing along the margin of the ring, make a slip stitc into the last dc that was worked into the ring after the ch loop

Thus the new petal starts from the same stitch where the previous ended. Repeat making two more sections like we just made
The last section ends in the stitch in which the first was begun.
Now we have an open work triangle and it is time to make a nice edge for it

For the next round pick up the padding cord, and holding it aling the edge of the 1st section, ends lying towards the left. Make sure that strands of pc are all the same tension. Work 3 dc into every little loop of ch up the 1st side of the 1st triange, 7 dc into the loot at the tip and 3 dc into loops of the 2nd side. Make a picot stitch into every 3rd stitch upon desire

Use the drop down thread as a padding cord too. Unless u make a stem, fix a padding cord as was shown in the lesson with a sprig

I did not like the center of the motif, where the beginning of a PC is sticking out and looks a bit ugly, so I've made a row with a long(5 chain) picot. To get tho the center of a motive, I've used an advise from Antonina Kuznetsova. She often drops a mesh thread through a motif, crocheting 3 chain and fixing it with a slipsting on the wrong side. And so I did this way - 2 loops of 3 chain, joined with a slip stitch to the center of a motif

Pulled the thread and the stitch to the right side thrugh the central hole and sl s into the very forst stitch in pc

Since we worked on the back loop of the stitch, the front loop is free, that is where we are going to work with picot. You can play with long pikot density. The left element on the picture was made with picot in every stitch and only one row. As a result I've got a solid brush. The right one was made with 2 dc 1 long picot  and two rows, making it more fluffy
